He was born August 19, 1926, son of the late W. Roy and Edith (Hargrave) Fisher. He was the youngest of six. He graduated from Madrid School in 1945. He worked the family farm until December of 1956. From 1957-1973 he worked for the Millbrook Bread Company. It was at that time he and his family moved to their current address. In 1973 he became employed by the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in the alcohol Treatment Program until 1981, when he became employed at St. Lawrence University as a cleaner until he retired in 1991. He was the sexton of the First Presbyterian Church in Canton until 2000.
He was a life member of the Waddington Masonic Lodge 393; 32nd degree Mason; he was a member of the Watertown Shiners' and of the Ups and Downs. Ed was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon and Elder. More recently he was a communicant of the Canton United Methodist Church and a member of the Morley Fire Department since 1957.
He enjoyed bowling, camping and attending lodge meetings throughout the county. He married Nona Dunn on August 14, 1954 at the Scotch Presbyterian Church in Chipman.
Surviving Mr. Fisher are his wife of 55 years, Nona; two sons, Richard and wife Sandy of Morley; John and wife Lynn of Madrid; a brother Alton of Hudson, Fl; six grand and six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A daughter Susan Fisher LaClair, brothers William, Byron and Jack and a sister Jessie Fisher predecease him.
Funeral services will be held at the Scotch Presbyterian Church in Chipman on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 11:00am with Rev. Noel Allen, officiating. Burial in Madrid Cemetery will follow the service.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Canton Methodist Church, Morley Fire Department or the Waddington Masonic Lodge 393.
