Douglas L. Thorbahn

Douglas L. Thorbahn, 82, of Canton passed away at home on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Doug was born July 16, 1942 in Canton, a son of the late Frank and Vera (Dafoe) Thorbahn. Doug played hockey for Canton Central and graduated in 1960. He went on the attend Canton ATI (now SUNY Canton). He began his career working for the Carrier Corporation in Syracuse before moving back to Canton in 1965.

In June of 1964, Doug married Ruth McAdoo, the couple has shared 60 years of marriage and raised two daughters. In 1967, Doug began working for Corning Glass, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed wood working and has made furniture for many family and friends. He also enjoyed playing golf in his younger days.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife Ruth Thorbahn, daughters Diana and Susan Thorbahn, grandchildren Elizabeth St. Germain, Taylor and Jacob Horst, siblings Roxanne Houle, David Thorbahn and Denise Barstow, as well as nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Frank and Vera, Doug was predeceased by two siblings, Allan Thorbahn and Deitre Gilson.

There will be a calling hour on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton.  A memorial service will follow immediately at 1:00 pm.
