Funeral services for Dorothy M. Ashley, 70, of Canton will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at O'Leary Funeral Service in Canton with Rev. James Brand, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Canton, officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Canton will follow the service. Mrs. Ashley passed away on Saturday, September 06, 2008 at the United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton where she had been a resident since September 18, 2007.

Friends may call at O'Leary Funeral Service in Canton on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Contributions in her memory can be made to the United Helpers Activity Fund, 40 West Main Street, Canton, New York 13617.

Surviving Mrs. Ashley are her husband of 52 years Leslie, son Frank and his wife Tammy of Pyrites, daughter Tonya and husband Floyd Rood of Pyrites, brother Gilbert Allen of Russell, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Two brothers Paul Jr. and Albert Allen predecease her.

Born September 23, 1937in Canton, daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude (Taylor) Allen. She attended Canton Schools and later received her General Equivalency Diploma. She worked at the Snack Bar at St. Lawrence University and in the kitchen at the University Treadway Inn, retiring in the early 1980's. She married Leslie Ashley on August 4, 1956 at the Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. Lester Cotter Officiating.

Mrs. Ashley was a member of the Pyrites ladies Auxiliary and the St. Lawrence County Fire Auxiliary. She loved to read, bake cakes especially for weddings, and was a Pyrites Girl Scout Leader.
