Funeral services Doris F. Vaughan, 82, of Russell will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 1:00pm at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton. Burial in the Jerusalem Cemetery will be Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 9:30am. Doris went to be with her heavenly father on January 25, 2011, she was at home where she had resided since 1998.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 27, from 4-7pm and on Friday, January 28, from 11:00am until the time of the service. Contributions in her memory may be made to the building fund for the New Beginnings Assembly of God in Edwards, NY or to a charity of one's choice.
Doris was born September 10, 1928 in Colton, the daughter of the late Homer and Carrie (Cramer) Coller. Doris attended school in Colton. She married Harold R. Vaughan September 14, 1946 in Morley with O.K. Barker, officiating. Mr. Vaughan predeceased her on February 25, 2005.
Doris was a member of the New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Edwards; past member of the Hermon Home Bureau and T.O.P.S. Doris was a homemaker who cherished her large family. She enjoyed making cards for family and friends. She also liked to write poetry and was an avid reader. Doris was appreciated by her family for bringing so much love and laughter into their lives and by example she made all of her children and grand children recognize the importance of holding family close.
All that knew Doris will be able to recall a funny story or joke, or a personalized handcrafted card made especially for them. She was the central part of the many family gatherings throughout the years. She has left her family with many traditions which they can carry on with for many generations.
Doris is survived by two sons, Wayne R. Vaughan of Colton; Peter and wife Roxanne of Russell; three daughters, Marlene and husband Lee Carvel of Hermon; Deborah and husband Robert White of Russell; Linda and husband John Rapa of St. Louis, MO; a brother Homer Coller of Colton; sister Joan and husband Allan McDonald of Canton; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by an infant daughter Elaine Mary, a brother Everette Coller and a sister-in-law Judy Coller.
