Graveside service for Deborah k. Capers, not Deb or Debbie, will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Hermon Cemetery. Deborah died on Monday, November 3, 2025 at the Rochester Regional Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she had been a patient for a short time. She was surrounded by the love and support of her family.
Deborah was born May 5, 1954 in Canton, a daughter of the late Ivan and Margaret (Barrigar) Stone. She graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School and studied Criminal Law at the City of Chicago. Deborah was proud to serve in the United States Navy, serving honorably for 20 years. Not only did she serve but she also meet the love of her life, Thomas Capers while they were both stationed in Spain. Following her service the couple lived in California until Thomas's passing in 2021, having shared 43 wonderful years. Deborah then returned to the North Country.
While in California, Deborah worked primarily as a personal care aid for Visiting Angels but also private duty work. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, reading, volunteering, sporting events, bowling and crafts, not to forget going to the casino and playing bingo. Being very patriotic and proud to have served her country, Deborah always celebrated the military holidays, Memorial Day and Veteran's Day and flew the Red, White and Blue. Deborah was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and the VFW.
Deborah is survived by her two sons, Christopher and Michael Capers, a granddaughter Caliyah and grandsons Michael and Nicolas, a sister Ruth (Carl) Wright, and several nieces and nephews, including Danielle Larue and others that she loved so much. In addition to her beloved Thomas, and parents Ivan and Margaret, she was predeceased by a son Jonathan, brother Ivan Stone Jr. and two sisters Mary Putnam and Marlene Jaques.
