Constance M. Hewes, 81, of Canton, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026 at her home with family by her side and under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Connie was born November 12, 1944 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Irene (Roth) and James Vandermark. She graduated from Wyalusing High School in Pennsylvania. On November 27, 1965, Connie was married to Clayton Hewes at the First Methodist Church of Towanda, with Rev. Welliver presiding.

Connie served in the United States Air Force, where she and Clayton met. In her younger years, Connie enjoyed cooking big family meals, baking and was very involved in her children’s sports and activities such as Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, she loved being in the outdoors and gardening. More recently she enjoyed trips to the casino and Bingo.

Connie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clayton, sons Shaun and Bryan Hewes, daughter Cynthia Swinyer; grandchildren Caileigh Hewes, Stacy Waterman, Vanessa Thompson and Brandon Swinyer.

In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased by a brother.
