Funeral mass for Charles A. Trippany, 77, summer resident of Canton and winter resident of Palmetto, Fl., will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 11:00am at the St. Mary's Church in Canton with Rev. Timothy Canaan and Rev. Garry Giroux co-celebrating. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton will follow the service. Mr. Trippany passed away on June 19, 2008.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
Surviving Mr. Trippany are his wife of 52 years, Mary, a son Thomas and Bonnie Trippany of Potsdam and Palmetto, FL., daughter Sue Anne and Ronald Bell and a granddaughter Stephanie Anne Bell of Franklin, MA; brother Lawrence and Beulah Trippany of Massena, two sisters; Betty Smith of Canton and Kathryn and Bernard Tyo of Louisville, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Allan, Carl and James Trippany, two sisters Ruth LaDue and Helen LaPage predecease him.
Born October 6, 1930 in Massena, son of the late Clifford and Marie (LaLone) Trippany. He graduated from Madrid High School in 1947 and in 1952 from Canton ATI with a degree in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning. On July 9, 1955 he married Mary C. Dodge at St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg with Rev. Everett Denesha offitiating. Mr. Trippany served in the Korean War from 1952-1954 with the United States Army.
From 1947-1952 he was employed by Kraft Cheese in Canton, then in 1952 he became employed by Carrier Company in Syracuse and later that year drafted in the Army. Upon his return in 1954 he went back to work for Carrier. In 1955 he became employed by Acme Markets as a commercial refrigeration and air conditioning technician. In the mid-60's he was employed by A&P Markets. In the late 60's till 1993 Mr. Trippany operated his own refrigeration and air conditioning repair service called Tripp's Refrigeration. During the 1970's and 80's Mr. Trippany taught evening courses in Apprenticeship Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at BOCES Northwest Tech Center in Norwood. In 1975 he and partner Joe Dwyer opened the Super Duper grocery store then located on Market St., which later moved to it's current location on Elm St. In the 1990's, it became the Big M Market and in 1998 he retired and they sold the business to his son Tom.
Mr. Trippany enjoyed boating, hockey, playing cards with friends and family and NASCAR. He was past president of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and a third degree Knight, member of the Canton VFW and the Madrid American Legion.
