Carol A. O’Horo, 74, of Canton died peacefully in the company of family on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh where she had been a patient for about a week.
Carol was born November 26, 1951 in Gouverneur, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Lillian (Jeffers) Fleming. She graduated from Hermon-DeKalb Central School and received a Bachelors in education from Potsdam State Teachers College (SUNY Potsdam). Carol dedicated 32 years to the Hermon-DeKalb Central School, teaching all grades from kindergarten to sixth grade.
On July 15, 2000, Carol was married to William O’Horo. Carol’s favorite pastime was helping Willie with the cows on the family farm. She enjoyed Friday coffee club at the Silver Leaf diner, doing jigsaw puzzles and cross-stitch, watching the soap operas and “Call the Midwife” on Netflix, and was an avid reader.
Carol is survived by her husband of 25 years, William O’Horo, sons Jeremy (Brittany) Bristol and Justin (Karen) Bristol, grandchildren Sam and John Vandeputte and Kyle and Lily Bristol. Also surviving are sisters Donna Lillis, Linda (Dave) Bishop and Cindy (Lorin) Morse as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents Lloyd and Lillian, Carol was predeceased by an infant sister Karen Fleming and a brother-in-law David Lillis.
There will be calling hours on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 pm.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Mary’s Church Thrift Shop, 7 Main Street; Canton, New York 13617.
