Funeral service for Bruce Thompson, 48, of Canton, will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton, with Rev. Doug Lucia, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hermon Cemetery. Bruce passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, while at home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, following a 10 year, five month, 16 day battle with brain cancer.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, October 9 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Contribution in his memory may be made to the family to establish a college fund for his daughter Jennah, c/o Lori Thompson, 125 Pink Schoolhouse Road; Canton, New York 13617.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Lori Gaurin Thompson of Canton, by four children, Jennah Thompson of Canton; Troy Miller and wife Wendy of Waddington; Randy Guyette of Canton and Erica Mallette and husband Kevin of Parishville; by four grandchildren, Hadley, Teagan, Maximus and Trenton. Also surviving are his parents, John and Gertrude Thomspon; mother-in-law, Gloria Gaurin of Canton; twin brother Brian Thompson and wife Lisa of Canton; John Thompson and wife Avis of Ogdensburg; Chris Thompson of Reno, NV and Scott and Rhonda Thompson of Canton; brother-in-law, Elias Gaurin Jr. and wife Sue of Canton; by sister-in-law's, Hope Cameron and husband Jason of DeKalb and Debbie Potvin of Fl., as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bruce is predeceased by his father-in-law, Elias Gaurin Sr. and by a nephew Hayden Gaurin.
Bruce was born July 27, 1967 in Burlington, VT, the son of John and Gerturde (Teriele) Thompson. He graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1985. In July 2003 he married Lori Gaurin, the couple had been longtime companions since 1994. Bruce worked as a dairy farmer from 1985-2000, he began working at the Gouverneur Sale Barn till 2003. From 2003 to 2005 he worked for Cives Steel in Gouverneur until he became ill. He and the entire 1984-1985 football team are members of the Ticonderoga High School Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling and going to the casino, but most of all he loved his children, grandchildren and family.
