Betty D. (Trippany) Smith

Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Betty D. Smith, 87, of Canton will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 12:00 PM at St. Mary's Church, Canton, with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Betty passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at home while surrounded by family, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
There will be private family calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Surviving Mrs. Smith are three sons, John ( Sheryl) Smith; Jim (Linda) Smith and Peter (Sondra) Smith, all of Canton; six daughters, Ellen (Ted) Wisner; Joan (Ray) Young; Karen (Jon) Mousaw; Patricia (Clifford) Streit and Debra (Brian) Todd, all of Canton and Sandra (Rick) Johnston of Norfolk. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Trippany of Massena.
Betty is predeceased by brothers, Allen, Carl, Charles and James Trippany and by sisters, Helen LaPage, Ruth LaDue and Katherine Tyo.
Betty was born, February 23, 1928 in Massena, the daughter of the late, Clifford and Marie (LaLonde) Trippany. She graduated from Madrid Central School in 1945. Betty married Lloyd Smith on November 30, 1946 at the St. Lawrence Church in Louisville, NY with Rev. Wilfred Nugent, Officiating. Mr. Smith predeceased her on February 2, 1985. Betty was a homemakers, raising a family and working the family farm alongside Lloyd. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
