Bertha Briggs, 93, of Canton died peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2025 at the United Helpers Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Bertha was born October 23, 1931 in North Russell, a daughter of the late Alfred and Lois (Fifield) Cota. She attended country schools. In 1972, Bertha married was married to Benjamin Briggs. Bertha was a good cook and baker, and although she didn't have her own children, she stepped in and helped raise Benjamin's following the early death of his wife, Mary.
She is survived by her children, Inez Simser, Martha Typhair, Robert (Darlene) Briggs, Joseph (Tari) Briggs, David Briggs, and Charles "Tim" Briggs, son-in-law Scott Mousaw, brother Lyle (Mary) Cota, grandchildren Jace, Charlize, Bentley, Axle, Lucas, Laurie, Kelly, Mandy, William, Robbie and Kimberly, Jay, Christopher, Katie, Kayla, Kaden and Cory and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Benjamin and parents, Alfred and Lois, she was predeceased by a daughter Cindy Mousaw and by siblings Arthur, Harold, Virgil, Chester, Otis, Richard, William and Virginia Cota and Mary Briggs and Joyce Daniels and by a daughter-in-law, Barbara Briggs and by sons-in-law Leon Simser and Bill Typhair.
A graveside service will be held in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville at 1:00 pm, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
