Canton, New York

Barbara Ann (Kane) Towne Age 83 passed away peacefully at her home while holding hands with her children. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania July 11, 1942 and then raised in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Howard and Jane (Keller) Kane.

While she was always a city girl at heart she embraced the north country way of life after moving to St. Lawrence County in 1960 and purchasing a farm on the Maple Ridge Road, Richville with her late husband of 26 years Herman Towne Jr. Together they started a beef farm and raised their three children Natalie, Rick and Teresa (Towne) Stone.

She was trained as a dietician at the Andrews School for Girls in Ohio and put those skills to work when she began her career at the EJ Noble Hospital when her children were all in school. She then went to work for the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office as a female corrections officer. Other places of employment included Kinney Drugs, United Cerebral Palsy, St. Lawrence University Catering and her last gig as a poll worker. She loved to keep herself busy.

She was the leader of the Rock Island 4-H Club for many years and also enjoyed volunteering at just about any event or organization that could use her giving heart. But her greatest joy in life were her children, grandchildren Bill (Rachel) and Amber Redmond, Becky (Tyler) Nicholl, Rachael Towne, Kate and Clare Brownell, Lily Towne, Rose Towne, step-grandchildren Graham, Chris and Kendall Stone and great-grandchildren Nolan, Wyatt, and Cal.

She found joy in her church and activities including counted cross stitch, sewing, knitting, ceramics, watching and participating in sporting events with her family, hiking in the Adirondacks, travel, reading, movies, music and concerts, time spent with friends and her many social groups.

Survived by: Her three children, son-in-law Chris Stone, brother Edward Kane, sister Jean Troia and many brother and sisters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews.

Pre-deceased by her parents, Howard and Jane Kane, brothers Jimmy and Earl and sister Janice.

In the spirit of her giving heart her final gift was the donation of her body to research and science.
