Barbara A. Cary

Barbara A. Cary, 42, of Potsdam passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the North Country Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Massena.

Barbara or Barbie, as she was known growing up, was born October 25, 1981 in Potsdam, the daughter of Geoffrey Cary and Cathy Mallette. Barbara played Varsity Football her senior year at Potsdam High School and was a 1999 graduate and went on to attend SUNY Canton. Barbara worked in various retail establishments over the years before becoming ill.

On October 2, 2010, she married Michael Steenberg at the Potsdam United Methodist Church, the couple was separated.  She enjoyed fishing, ice skating and loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Barbara is survived by her mother, Cathy (Barry) Orologio, siblings, Jessica Mallette, Geoffrey Cary Jr., Melissa Orologio (Brandon Terrance), Melinda Orologio and Ashley (Joshua) Forbes, her step-mother Linda Cary, paternal grandmother Joan Cary and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara was predeceased by her father Geoffrey Cary, brother, Jason Cary, paternal grandfather George Cary and maternal grandparents Richard and June Mallette.

There will be a calling hour on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial in the Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam will follow.
