A memorial service for Barbara T. Barnett, 87 of Canton will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 12:00pm at St. Mary's Church in Canton with Rev. Doug Lucia celebrating. A luncheon will be held following the service at the St. Mary's School. Mrs. Barnett went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2009, she was at home under the care of her family and Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Robert and Kate invite friends and family to join them Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Union (Risley) Cemetery, Risley Road, in the town of DeKalb for a service of committal for Barbara.
Surviving Mrs. Barnett are her son Robert and his wife Kathleen; grandchildren, Lindsay and husband Adam Brearley, Aaron Barnett and Phillip Barnett, all residing in California; a brother Mahlon Lobdell and his wife Doris of Canton; a sister Martha and her husband Arthur Mallette of Ogdensburg and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A brother Richard J. Lobdell predeceases her.
Born May 21, 1922 in Dekalb, daughter of the late Richard J. and Anna M. (O'Horo) Lobdell, she graduated from Canton School in 1940 and from A. Barton Hepburn School of Nursing in 1943. She worked in NYC and for Dr. Sapsin in Canton for a short time and in 1967 became employed at Canton ATC as a registered nurse, retiring in 1987. On August 3, 1953 she married Bobby J. Barnett at the Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg with Monsignor Charrbonnau, Celebrating; Mr. Barnett predeceased her on June 1, 1956.
Mrs. Barnett loved to garden, knit, and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed going to the theatre and spending time visiting with family and friends, she was so good and so kind to so many; she will be missed. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, a community volunteer and an active member of St. Mary's Church. Her body has been donated for scientific research. The family plans a memorial and interment service in the late spring following cremation.
