Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Avis J. Bonno, 72, of Pierrepont, will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church in Colton with Msgr. John Murphy, celebrating. Avis died on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital while in the company of family.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home, 5821 USH 11; Canton on Tuesday, April 16 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Contributions in her memory may be made to Colton Rescue or Pierrepont Fire, the American Cancer Society or the Potsdam Humane Society.
Avis is survived by her husband of 52 years, Donald; two sons, Scott and wife Donna; Leonard and wife Brenda, all of Pierrepont; four grandchildren, Leon of Groton; Erin of Durhamville; Eric and wife Charlene of Pierrepont and Ashley of Pierrepont. She is also survived by a brother, Judson Mills of Colton; by sisters, Patricia Dillabaugh of Ft. Myers, FL and Jean Higgins of Parishville.
A brother, Phillip Mills and her twin sister, Ardis Warner predecease her.
Avis was born, December 31, 1940 in South Russell, the daughter of the late Nina Mills and step-father, Arthur Bonno. She attended the one room schoolhouse in Pierrepont and the Grammar School in Canton, graduating from Hugh C. Williams High in 1958. On October 8, 1960, she married Donald Bonno at St. Mary's Church in Canton. Avis worked a short time for the Department of Motor Vehicles and then for Dompnier & Leonard Insurance for more than 30 years. Avis had her Real estate and Broker License.
She was a member of the Pierrepont Ladies Auxiliary; the National Insurance Woman's Organization and was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Colton. She enjoyed photography, gardening, flowers, painting, baking her famous bread and rolls and her grandchildren.
