Antoinette Marie Mazzotta (née Daniele) passed away on September 29th, 2014, surrounded by family in Canton, New York at the age of 92.
Antoinette led an incredible life, and will be remembered by those who knew her as a tenacious woman who lived life with purpose and quite literally without apology. She was born on January 3rd, 1922 in Manhattan, New York to Teresa and Vincent Daniele, and was raised with her sister Sue, and brothers Angelo and Jerry. Growing up in New York, Antoinette and her siblings navigated the challenges of being first-generation Italian-American by drawing strength from their Roman Catholic values, cohesive family structure, and from celebrating their Italian traditions. As a young woman, Antoinette enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking, and was celebrated specifically for her baked cream puffs.
In 1943, Antoinette married pharmacist Louis Mazzotta, and gave birth to a son, Sebastian Mazzotta and daughter, Teresa Kiernan (née Mazzotta). Antoinette and Louis were married for fourteen years when Mr. Louis Mazzotta passed away. To provide for her family, Antoinette obtained a job at J.P. Morgan Guaranty Trust Company and thrived in her work, at a time when few women worked on Wall Street. For those familiar with Antoinette, it is no surprise that her pragmatic, assertive, and austere way of being served her well in this role, and that she achieved tremendous success in her career.
Remarkably, Antoinette's tireless work ethic and general perseverance was rivaled only by the generosity she bestowed upon her family. She loved Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, sewing, haute couture, Ferrara's cannolis, her own eggplant mozzarella, Clinique make-up, verbal jousting, Alfred Dunner garments, the thrill of using a coupon, and relaxing with a twice-baked biscotti and espresso. With the same enthusiasm, Antoinette particularly despised telephone solicitors and the phrase "Mrs. Mazzotta, you can't do that."
Antoinette is survived by her son Dr. Sebastian Mazzotta, daughter-in-law Anne Mazzotta (Canton, N.Y), daughter, Teresea Kiernan, son-in-law Mark Kiernan (Cape Coral, Florida), and her sister Sue Daniele (Sunrise, Florida). Antoinette is also survived by her six grandchildren, Alyson Lankford (née Kiernan), Patrick Kiernan, Matthew Mazzotta, Andrew Mazzotta, Michael Mazzotta, and Elizabeth Mazzotta, and two great-grand children Christopher and Connor Lankford. Antoinette is reunited with her late husband Louis Mazzotta, and her brothers Angelo Daniele and Jerry Daniele.
Per her request, a private burial will be held for Antoinette on October 4th, 2015. The Mazzotta family would like to thank all those who shared in Antoinette's incredible life, and the dedicated individuals at United Helpers' Maple Wood Campus and the Canton-Potsdam Hospital nursing and medical staff, who were instrumental in her recent care.
Arrangements are under the care of the O'Leary Funeral Service of Canton. Memories and condolences may be expressed online at www.olearyfuneralservice.com.
