Alice M. Pike, 76 years old of Russell passed away Thursday October 1, 2009 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital under the care of her family and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
She was born March 23, 1933 in Pyrites the daughter of Harold and Florence Enslow Austin. She attended Pyrites and Russell Schools. A marriage to Richard White ended in divorce. She married John Pike in Russell on July 3, 1989.
She was employed as a cook and waitress for many years at several restaurants in Canton including McCarthy's, St. Lawrence Inn and Ralphs. She had also owned and operated the Russell Corner store.
She enjoyed painting, crafts, Bingo, going to the Casino, canning and baking for everyone.
She is survived by her husband John; a son and his wife: Joseph and Debra of Canton, two daughters: Jeanie and Peter Hance of North Carolina and Becky and Ronald Kirpatrick of Edward; two stepchildren: Patricia Farnsworth of Edwards and Ken and Amy Pike of Louisville; a brother Nelson Austin of Pyrites,two sisters; Barbara Johnson of Ogdensburg and Janet Lannan of Connecticut; a sister-in-law Carol Austin of Hannawa; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Ed Austin and a sister Norma Jean also 1 sister-in-law Laura Austin.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday October 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. James Brand officiating. Burial will be in Clare Cemetery. Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton Friday 2-4 and 7-9. Contributions may be made to Russell Rescue Squad or Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
