Funeral mass for Alice M. Picher, 85, of Canton will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 12:00pm with Rev. Douglas Lucia celebrating. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls, NY will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 11:00am. Mrs. Picher passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Fletcher-Allen Medical Center in Burlington, VT.
Friends may call at the O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Surviving Mrs. Picher are her daughters; Jean and Ronald Reome of Massena and June and Larry LaClair of Sommerfield, NC; five grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Her son, George "Ed" Picher Jr. in 1999; a brother Rolland Deschambault and a sister Theresa Smith predecease her.
Born November 25, 1923 in Carlsbad Springs, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Annette (Charlebois) Deschambault. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls in 1941. She married George E. Picher on February 26, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in South Glens Falls with Rev. O'Brien officiating; he predeceased her on January 5, 2002. She worked for Canton College as the printing machine operator for both Canton and Potsdam State Colleges, retiring on June 1, 1981.
She enjoyed her exercise classes on Tuesday and Thursday, Monday coffee hour and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
