Alex James Amyot, AJ, 50, of DeKalb, passed away in Potsdam, NY on November 28th, 2025.

Alex was born Sept. 24th, 1975 in Alexandria Bay, NY, son of Van and Darlene (Cullen) Amyot. He was raised in Hammond, NY. Alex graduated from Hammond Central School and Northwest Tech in 1994, and was New York State Certified in Welding (top of his welding class in NY State)

Alex worked as a kid on John Morrison's farm, later he was a cook at River Edge in Alex Bay, NY, and a welder for Richmond Machine in Hammond, NY.

Alex married Sarah Bishop October 15th, 2016, they resided in DeKalb Junction, NY. Alex is survived by his wife Sarah, father Van Amyot and Step-mother Marcia Thompson-Amyot, five children Katie Amyot, Nicholas Amyot, Diamond Bishop, Bonnie Lou Amyot, and Jamal Amyot.

Alex is also survived by his sister Julie Miller(Mac) of Fairport, NY, step-brother Don Thompson of Baldwinsville, NY, a step-sister Sarah St. Pier of Hammond, NY and eight grandchildren, Graeson Mace, Piper, Parker, Preston Thornhill, Jaxson and Kayson Amyot, Liam and Savannah.

Alex was predeceased by his mother Darlene, daughter Ashley, paternal grandparents Alexander and Agnes Amyot, Maternal grandparents James and Patricia Cullen.

Alex spent the last few months of his time with his nephew Hunter Bishop, who helped to take care of him while Sarah was at work. They grew a tight bond together. Alex enjoyed fishing and hunting, outdoor activities like snowmobiling and three wheeling and spending time with his family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Calling hours will also be held on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the East DeKalb Cemetery.
