Shirley M. (Murray) Ames

Shirley M. Ames, 79, of Canton, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown where she had been since May 16, 2019.

Shirley was born November 20, 1939 in Madrid, the daughter of the late Henry and Elva Murray. She graduated from Madrid Central School. She worked for Barlow’s Nursing Home and then in Chaney Dining Hall at Canton ATC for 20 + years. Shirley married Clarence E. Ames on April 23, 1957 at St. John’s Church in Madrid with Father Dewey, officiating. Clarence predeceased her on December 12, 2009.

Shirley enjoyed garage sales, bingo, dancing, cursing, cooking and her dogs.

She is survived by two daughters, Robin (Rich) Finn of Fountain Hills, AZ and Penny (Tom) Ames of Potsdam; grandchildren, Ryan (Jackie) and Reid Finn of AZ and Jessica Ames of Potsdam. She is also survived by a sister, Melinda Wilson of Louisville and many nieces and nephews.  

Besides Clarence and her parents, she is predeceased by six siblings, Herbert, Lyle, Jesse, Floyd, Patricia and Pauline.

Calling hours for Shirley will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home in Canton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton.
