Rosaria (Rina) Marano, 90, of Canton, was rejoined with her husband Leonardo on Sunday, January 20, 2019.
Rina was born on January 6, 1929, in Benghazi, Libya, the daughter of the late Carmelo and Concetta (Catalbiano) LoCerto. She was married to Leonardo Marano in April of 1955 in Tripoli. The couple came to Tarrytown, New York in 1962. Rina worked as a seamstress, in a department store and assembling electrical parts, but most of all she was a mother. Throughout her life, she dedicated her time and talents to help those less fortunate, quick to provide food to comfort, knitted blankets for babies, and spread kindness to all she encountered. Her friends and family will remember her and her husband’s adventurous spirit in moving to a new place to make a better life for their family in the US.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Canton.
She is survived by her two children, Natalina (Nadia) Marano and husband Jeff Weeks of Canton; Salvatore Marano and wife Judy of Marlborough, CT; and three grandchildren, Adam Weeks Marano and Ryan and Erica Marano. Rosaria was the youngest of five children, and was predeceased by all of her siblings.
Contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to The Gabriel Project; c/o St. Mary’s Church; 66 Court Street; Canton, New York 13617.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Canton with Father Bryan Stitt, Pastor, celebrating.
