Penny L. (Rivers) Pitts

Funeral service for Penny L. Pitts, 64, of Canton will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, with Hon. Roger K. Duvall, officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Plains Cemetery. Penny passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, where she was in the company of her family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday as well from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral service. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Potsdam Animal Shelter, 17 Madrid Ave; Potsdam, New York 13676.

Penny is survived by brothers, Gilbert E. Rivers of Canton; Martin K. Rivers of Canton; by a sister, Melissa A. Cook of NYC; the love of her life, Roger K. Duvall of Theresa and by nieces and nephews.

Penny is predeceased by her parents and by her husband, Joseph Pitts.

Penny was born, December 3, 1952 in Canton, the daughter of Gilbert H. and Winifred (Perry) Rivers. She graduated from Canton High School. Penny married Joseph Pitts in August of 1977. She was employed by Sergi’s and Dairy Queen, later for St. Lawrence County Department Social Services 1972 until her retirement in 2007. Following her retirement, she worked for several years with White’s Flower’s. Penny was a longtime member of the Canton Zonta Club and Friends of St. Lawrence Hockey.
