Paul Toomey Obituary

Paul A. Toomey, 83, of Lisbon, passed away while in the company of his family on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, where he had been a patient since October.

Paul was born September 30, 1936 in Canton, the son of Bernard and Florence (Bradley) Toomey. He graduated from Canton High School and joined the US Navy, serving from 1955-1957. On his return, Paul was married June 1, 1957 to the Love of His Life, Ruth Sharlow at St. Mary’s Church, Canton. Paul worked at the Edson Martin Beer Plant as a truck driver and warehouse manager until the plant closed. He then went to work for Heuvelton Equipment until his retirement at which time he could be found on his riding mower, taking care of the grounds at Woodcrest Dairy and Cruikshank Farms. Paul enjoyed country music, NASCAR, Syracuse Basketball, Gardening and decorating for Christmas. His most cherished times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth of Lisbon; children, Darlene (Bruce) Reed of Kirkville, NY; Paula (Robert) Robinson of Elmira, NY; Bradley (Mary Beth) Toomey of DeKalb and Janelle (Brian) Cruikshank of Lisbon; 12 grandchildren, Owen Jr. and Daniel Gilbo, Stephanie and Edward Small Jr., Steven, Kyle and Victoria Toomey, Adam Hazelton, Bradon (Jennifer) Toomey, Brandon, Makayla (Luke King) and Tristen Cruikshank. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Frederick Toomey of Massena and James Toomey of Canton and a sister, Patricia Dominie of Canton.

Paul is predeceased by his mother and father, Florence and Bernard Toomey, a son, Owen Toomey-Gilbo, a granddaughter, Ashley Kay Reed, and a brother, William Toomey.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at the First Congregational (White) Church of Lisbon followed by a Celebration of Life in the church fellowship hall.
