Norvelle E. (Weston) Cougler

Funeral service for Mrs. Norvelle E.  “Budge” Cougler, 92 of Canton will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Crary Mills Presbyterian Church, with Pastor “Skip” Edie and Lay Pastor Frank Carter, officiating. Burial will follow in the Crary Mills Cemetery. Budge passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at her home.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Crary Mills Presbyterian Church, 159 CR 35; Canton, New York 13617 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Budge is survived by two daughters, Shirley Amo of Norfolk and Sheila Reasoner and husband Kenneth of Victor; two sons, Joey G. Cougler and wife Diane of Canton; Gary K. Cougler and wife Kathy of Canton; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a sister Melba Grove and husband Lloyd of New Market, VA and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband Oswald “Joe” Cougler, a son, Calvin L. Cougler, a grandson Kenny Dan Reasoner and by two brothers and five sisters.

Budge was born, April 1, 1925 in West Pierrepont, the daughter of the late Delbert and Estella (Gay) Weston. She graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School in 1943. On October 27, 1943, she married Oswald “Joe” Cougler at the Canton Methodist Parsonage, with Rev. Walter Dobbie officiating the marriage. The couple had always resided on the family farm in Pierrepont. From 1962 to 1984, she was the bookkeeper for Cougler Feed Service in Heuvelton.

Budge was a member of the Crary Mills Presbyterian Church, the Canton Senior Citizens, and an almost 50-year member of T.O.P.S./K.O.P.S., she enjoyed the monthly sing-a-longs with Dawn Atkinson’s gang. putting together jigsaw puzzles, and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
