Melvin “Mel” Jaskowski, 78, of Canton, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
Mel was born April 16, 1941in Depew, NY; a son of the late Edward and Celia (Kujawa) Jaskowski. He graduated from Cleveland Hill High School in Buffalo and from Canton ATC with a Criminal Justice degree. Mel served in the US Air Force from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962. On April 4, 1964, Mel was married to Elizabeth “Betty” Myers. Following his service, Mel entered the NYS Trooper Academy, working for 20+ years, retiring in 1986. Following his retirement, Mel continued working various other jobs, including security at St. Lawrence University, St. Lawrence County Courts and at the Canton Police Department as a custodian and maintenance worker. Mel enjoyed fishing and driving around the North Country Roads.
Mel is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty of Canton; four children, Michael (Kristen) Jaskowski; Lori (Bob) Calabrese; Mark (Tara) Jaskowski and Julie Jaskowski; five grandchildren, Connor, Orion, Avlinn, Isabella and Phoebe, as well and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Three brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Gerald Jaskowski predecease him.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 1:00 pm until the time of his memorial service at 4:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home of Canton.
