Marion I. Kotz, 93, of Rensselaer Falls passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, while surrounded by her loving family.

Marion was born, August 31, 1924 in Fort Covington, New York; the daughter of the late Edward and Celestine (Payne) Smith. She graduated from Bombay High School and from St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nurse at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg from 1955 – 1962. Marion married William T. Kotz on April 21, 1946 at St. Patrick’s Church in Hogansburg. He predeceased her on October 29, 2009. Marion enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, hunting and reading and was a devoted mother and grandmother,

Marion is survived by two sons, William Jr. and Marlene of Canton; George and Barbara of Ogdensburg; six daughters, Sandra Gonyea of Rensselaer Falls; Carol and Paul Lytle of Rensselaer Falls; Susan Kimbal of Crestview, FL; Mary Lou Carvel and John Bishop of DeKalb Jct.; Veronica and Dan Routh of N. Yarmouth, ME and Kimberly and Cliff Burke of Louisville, OH. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Smith, of Massena and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marion is predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Martin and Marguerite Garrow and two brothers, Edward and Carleton Smith

Memorial service for Mrs. Marion I. Kotz, 93, of Canton will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:30 am at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton, with Rev. Jay Seymour officiating. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley; 6805 US Hwy 11; Potsdam, New York 13676 or to the American Cancer Society; PO Box 7; East Syracuse, New York 13057.
