Mabel I. (Viancour) Woodside

Mabel I. Woodside, 93, of Massena and formerly of Canton, passed away peacefully at the Highland Nursing Home where she was surrounded by family.

Mabel was born August 10, 1925 in Russell, the daughter of the late Alfred H. and Cora M. (Miller) Viancour. She graduated cum laude from Knox-Memorial Central School in Russell in 1943. Mabel worked at the Canton Diner, and for Clark Insurance in Canton. She drove school bus for Canton Central School for 32 years, retiring in 1985. She then moved to Massena. Mabel belonged to Teamsters Local 687, Canton VFW 1231, Massena VFW 1143, Massena Rod and Gun Club, Massena Senior Citizens and the St. Lawrence Valley Horseman’s Association.

She married Richard F. Woodside of Canton on August 12, 1945 in Morristown. He predeceased her in 1985.

Mabel is survived by a son, Thomas L. Woodside of Canton and a daughter, Teresa Picciano of California; five grandchildren, Daniel Woodside Eno of VA.; Mary Eno of California; Kathleen Woodside of Oregon, Alicia Woodside of Vermont and John Watkins of Canton. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Zander Eno, Zenith Mueller, Crown Eno-Mueller and Zara Eno-Mueller and a sister, Frances Grant of Hermon.

Mabel is predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Ann Woodside in 1985 at the age of 38 and by a sister, Doris Dominie.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial in the Fairview Cemetery, Canton will be held in the spring.
