John Lyle Wheeler

Graveside service for Mr. John Lyle Wheeler, 61, of Potsdam will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the West Potsdam Cemetery, CR 34, West Potsdam. John died on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 while in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. There will be no calling hours.

John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Grace originally of Rock Hall, MD; daughter, Shannon of Potsdam; son John Leo of Potsdam; granddaughter, Mia Grace; sister, Jill Wheeler-Neverette, and a niece and nephew, Erin and Christopher Neverette.

John is predeceased by his parents, Lyle F. and Carol F. Wheeler and by a brother, Michael Wheeler.

John was born, January 1, 1956 in Norfolk, VA while his father Lyle was in the Navy. He graduated from Potsdam High School in 1974. On August 21, 1981, he was married to Grace Elbourn. John was a hard worker, holding various jobs throughout his life, retiring from Gouverneur Talc.

John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and 4-wheeling. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Highway 11; Potsdam, New York 1376.
