Gary Lee Niles, 63, of Canton, died on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he was in the company of family, while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Gary was born June 16, 1955 in Malone; he was the son of the late Glenn and Eleanor (Fadden) Niles. Gary served in Vietnam with the United States Navy from 1973-1975. He was a truck driver for Triple A, Metals Transport and Waste Stream Management. On April 28, 1984, Gary was married to Sandy Darling. Gary was a loving and devoted father, uncle and grandfather. He gave unconditional love through the good times and bad. His dry sense of humor could make anyone laugh.
He grew up in Dickinson, along the Saint Regis River that he loved so much. It was there he developed his passion for trout fishing, passing that passion along to his grandson Gavin. Gary also enjoyed carpentry and camping. He volunteered for two years, driving for the Volunteer Transportation Center and was a past member of the Ogdensburg VFW.
Gary is survived by his wife Sandy Niles of Canton; daughter, Peggy Niles of Canton; a grandson, Gavin Niles; four brothers, Scott (Cindy) Niles; Glenn (Ann) Niles; Mark (Paula) Niles, all of Canton, Carl (Becky) Niles of Washington State and a sister, Edna (Richard) Dana of Canton. Also surviving are two sister-in-law’s, Sharon Sullivan and Susan and Larry Sheridan and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Terry Niles predeceased him.
