Betty L. (Walz) Knight

Mass of Christian Burial for Betty L. Knight, 82, formerly of Canton will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Canton, with Rev. Brian Stitt, celebrating. Betty passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, where she had been a resident since 2013.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Jules of Life Foundation, 798 Five Mile Line Road; Ogdensburg, New York 13669 or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 5005 Campuswood Dr.; East Syracuse, New York 13057.

Betty is survived by a son, Gene Knight of Canton; two daughters, Debra and Joseph White of Canton and Russell and Pamela and John Yaremko of Denver, CO; by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A brother, William Walz predeceased her in 2010.

Betty was born February 12, 1935 in Garber, Iowa; the daughter of the late Wilbur J. and Leona (Miller) Walz. She attended school in Central City, Iowa and later obtained her G.E.D. in Canton. Betty worked at the Greyhound bus station at the St. Lawrence Inn for many years until her retirement.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, spending summers in Alex Bay with friends and most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
