Memorial service for Roberta White, 85, of North Russell will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at the meditation room at United Helpers Maplewood Campus. Roberta died on April 19, 2016 at the United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton, from 4-7 PM. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Canton Free Library, P.O. Box 150; Canton, New York 13617.
Roberta was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania on August 28, 1930. She was raised in Port Chester, New York where her parents taught school, and she graduated from Albany State in 1952. She was employed by the National Bank of Westchester in Briarcliff Manor, New York. Subsequently, she relocated to Scranton, Pennsylvania where she was a case worker with the Lackawanna County Bureau of Children's services. She married Joseph P. White on October 12, 1968 at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit with the Reverend Robert M. Hoag officiating. She left her social work position with Lackawanna County prior to the joyful adoption of their daughter, Valerie in September 1971. She and Joseph relocated to St. Lawrence County in June 2003 in order to be close to their daughter.
Roberta loved to knit, travel, and grow flowers. She was a helpful neighbor, a loyal friend, and a loving, forever beloved wife and mother.
