Leon C. Blackburn

Graveside memorial service for Leon C. Blackburn, 72, of Canton, will be held in the spring in the Morley Cemetery. Leon passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 while in the comfort of his home, amongst family and under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.

Leon is survived by his loving wife, Carole of Canton; by a son, Larry (Jan) Felt of Canton; by three daughters, Lisa (Carol) MacLennan of Norfolk; Lori (Brian) Remington of Colton and Lynn (Andy) Hammer of Montauk; by eight brothers, David Blackburn of Ogdensburg; John (Penny) Blackburn of Morley; Stephen (Mary) Blackburn of Red Mills; Allen (Cindy) Blackburn of Maryland; Mitchell and Karen Blackburn of Liverpool; Larry (Sue) Blackburn of Norfolk; Mark (Leslie) Blackburn of Rome, NY and James and Wanda Blackburn; by two sisters, Sharon (Roger) Blair of Colorado and Lucy (James) Casonie of Carthage. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Linda Bisonette and Mary Joyce Clarke predecease him.

Leon was born, December 14, 1944 in Evansville, IN, the son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Schaefer) Blackburn. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1961and from Canton ATC in 1971. Leon worked in the St. Lawrence County Treasurers Office. On December 9, 1972 he was married to Carole Crowe Felt at St. Mary’s Church in Canton, with Msgr. Griffith J. Billmeyer, celebrating the marriage. Leon enjoyed collecting paper money and coins, wood working and vegetable gardening.
