Memorial Mass for Josephine F. Kingston, 97, of Canton, will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Canton, with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, celebrating. Burial will follow in Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam. Josephine died on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

There will be no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made the Lloyd and Josephine Kingston Scholarship Fund; c/o Canton College Foundation, 34 Cornell Dr; Canton, NY 13617.

Josephine is survived by her son, David L. Kingston of Canton; by two daughters, Rose Marie K. Costanzo and fiancé William Sochia of Atworth, GA and Sylvia M. Kingston of Canton; by three grandchildren, Anna C. Costanzo of Atworth, GA; Jessica Kingston-Carvel and husband Brian Carvel of Boonville and Shelley Kingston Peria of Canton and by a great-granddaughter, Lila Kingston Carvel. Also surviving are two sisters, Jennie Kingston of Canton and Rose Romo of California, former son-in-law’s, Michael Costanzo of Canton and Timothy Peria of Saranac Lake; former daughter-in-law’s, Donka Kingston and Michelle Morgan and her children, Heather Sherwin and Heath Kotula; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Josephine is predeceased by her husband Lloyd, who passed on May 22, 1986 and by seven siblings.

Josephine was born, January 29, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Italian Immigrants, John and Rose (LaMana) Pertrillo. Josephine and her family later settled in Rochester, NY, where she attended Rochester City Schools and worked at Petrillo’s Pizzeria and Bakery, her families restaurant.

On February 27, 1942, Josephine married WWII Veteran and Canton native, Lloyd J. Kingston. Returning back to Canton where they raised their three children, David, Rose-Marie and Sylvia Kingston. Both Lloyd and Josephine are best known for establishing “Josie’s Little Pizzeria” in Canton in 1973. “Josie’s” is currently owned and operated by their youngest daughter, Sylvia.

Both Lloyd and Josephine loved to bowl and sponsor league bowling teams. Josephine loved cooking and the friendly competitions she would have with Lloyd baking homemade pies. Josephine was also a member of the VFW Post 1231 Ladies Auxiliary. But above all, family was most important.
