Charles J. Shaver

April 20, 1933 ~ June 5, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old


OGDENSBURG – Charles J. Shaver, 83, A legend in his time, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 surrounded by his family while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care at the United Helpers Riverledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.

Born on April 20, 1933 in Ogdensburg,  he was the son of the late Irwin and Mildred (Abbott) Shaver.  He attended Ogdensburg Public Schools.

On May 30, 1953, he married Betty June LaFlair and they remained by each other’s side for more than 63 years.

For many years, Charlie worked for General Crushed Stone in Ogdensburg.  He also worked for Diamond National and Shade Roller in Ogdensburg.  He helped build the St. Lawrence Seaway.

He was a lifetime member of the Cranberry Lake Fish and Game Club.  He was a past member of the Franco-American Club, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #814 and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Ogdensburg.

Charlie loved to fish, hunt and spend time at his hunting camp in Cranberry Lake, NY.  More than anything, he cherished the time that he shared with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Irwin Shaver.

Charlie is survived by his family that took him 63 years to build including his beloved wife, Betty; his sons, Charles W. Shaver and his wife, Suzanne of Ogdensburg, Mark J. Shaver and his wife, Kate of New Providence, PA, Shawn R. Shaver and his partner, Debbie Lightfoot-Strader of Ogdensburg; his daughters, Charlene Fanizzie and her husband, Frank of Heuvelton,  Deborah A. LaFlair of Ogdensburg, Wanda L. Barr and her fiancé, Erik Bjork of Ogdensburg, Junelle L. Fisher and her husband, Michael of Ogdensburg; his grandchildren, Adam Shaver and his wife, Kari of North Carolina, Joel C. Barr and his partner, Alexandra L. Augsbury of Ogdensburg, Scott LaFlair of Ogdensburg, Nichole L. Kennedy and her husband, Robert of Ogdensburg, Madison Brossoit and her husband, Randy of Ogdensburg, Eric T. Barr and his partner, Jessica Stiles of Ogdensburg, Leah Fisher of Ogdensburg, Bridgett Fanizzie of Heuvelton, Charles M. Shaver and his partner, Samantha Weaver of Heuvelton, Andrew LaFlair of Ogdensburg, Chelsi B. Shaver of New Providence, PA, Kristi L. Shaver of New Providence, PA, Jacob W. Shaver of Ogdensburg,  Paige E. Hess of New Providence, PA, Hunter Shaver of Ogdensburg, Tanner J. Bjork of Ogdensburg, Kayli Shaver of New Providence, PA, Sammy Prange of New Providence, PA, Livia R. Shaver of Ogdensburg; Noah Strader of Ogdensburg; his great grandchildren, Maddie, Austin, Urijah, Gabbie, Emma, Regan, Aubrey, Brady, Landon, Owen and one great grandchild on the way;  his brother, Keith Shaver and his wife, Marlene of Ogdensburg; his sisters, Sally Lovely of Ogdensburg, Suzanne Storie and her husband, William of Rensselaer Falls.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on June 25, 2016 at 12:00 PM at the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge #814, 609 Pickering Street; Ogdensburg, NY.
